Language Group

Note
The language group and forum described in this post, regretfully, no longer exist.

Are you interested in language? Of course you are: all human beings are interested in language as it is the foundation on which most of our daily activities are based. But are you really interested in language, interested enough to note the fascinating, curious and absurd uses of language that we encounter daily in signs, popular speech, the media, etc; interested enough to peruse dictionaries and etymologies to learn more about the words that are our common currency; interested enough to discuss the amusing, serious and subtle aspects of language with people who are as interested in the subject as you are?

If your answer is “Yes!” then you might be interested in the Language Group, a message board that some of us have set up. It is an Invision Powerboard which is one of the most powerful yet easy to use messaging systems in current use. Anyone can join in. You can become a Member, which means that your username will be unique to you and password-protected against being used by anyone else or you can contribute as a Guest, reading anonymously and posting under a temporary name. There are few formalities beyond the familiar one of “be polite and don’t flame”. As well as forums on language issues, there is a General Chat forum where people can talk about more or less anything.

Feel free to take a look at the message board without obligation. You will find it at this address: http://languagegroup.invisionplus.net/ .

If you like what you see, then please read the Welcome and Membership forums as these tell you about using the message board and who to contact for help or further information.

You can also contact me about the Language Group either in a comment to this post (please leave a contact email address) or by using the link to my email address in the sidebar.
