Today is Global Tiger Day and I shall of course be raising a celebratory cup or two of tea to my favourite big cat and namesake. Tigers remain under threat of extinction – let there be no doubt about this – but splendid progress has been made in tiger conservation over the last few years and the work continues vigorously. Shrinking habitats, poaching and conflict with human communities are among the threats hanging over tiger survival but organizations and governments are working together to find solutions and there have been many success stories.
If you care about tigers then you can help. Support and help of every kind is important and if you want to take part, the WWF’s Get Involved page tells you how you can do so.
Then there is that other time-honoured way of helping: giving money. Yes, I know money is tight but if you can spare just a little then that will help – many a mickle makes a muckle. The WWF’s Donate Page provides an easy way to do so if you have a credit or debit card. For other ways of helping or donating contact The Living Planet Centre, Rufford House, Brewery Road, Woking, Surrey GU21 4LL. Tel: 01483 426333.
