The peanut man

Some while ago (I can’t find the post now), I wrote about seeing a tree in a local park that had a hollow in it that someone had filled with peanuts, to the approval of the local wildlife. I had no idea who the donor might be.

Today, by chance, I found myself in the same park looking at the same tree when the peanut man turned up. I watched him rattle the peanuts into the hollow and put the empty bag into a litter bin.

“Aha!” said I, “a mystery solved! I wondered who it was who supplying the peanuts.”

The man smiled at me vaguely and went to sit on a bench and smoke a cigarette. I reckoned he was not the talkative sort and that it would be best to leave him in peace.

I did, however, take these two photos of grateful “clients” coming to collect their rations. I had seen them in the area earlier and deduce that the man comes every day at the same time, so they wait for him.
