These four handsome—and apparently indefatigable—ladies are helping to hold up the facade of the Post Office where I went to send back the Qstarz travel recorder this morning.
It is a fine building but difficult to photograph because of the tree in front of it, the cars parked along the side of the road and the moving traffic which dissuaded me from walking into the road to get a better view.
There was already a very long queue by the time I got there but there were 5 clerks on duty so I didn’t have to wait too long. With post offices closing left, right and centre, I wonder how long this one will survive. A similar post office in Borough, one that was always busy and doing a roaring trade, has been closed and business transferred to a small counter in a supermarket tucked away in the back streets. The best we can hope for is that the buildings themselves will survive to be admired by us and future generations.
As for the travel recorder, I feel relieved to see the back of it. I have no confidence that a replacement would work any better so I emailed to ask if I could have a refund instead of a replacement and this has been agreed. The money will go towards the new Blackberry mobile phone cum PDA that I have ordered and which should reach me tomorrow.
